Attorney Annette Newman is a solo practitioner providing personal and quality legal representation to both employers and employees throughout the State of Florida.  Her office is located in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Attorney Newman is passionate about civil rights and employment law and has worked most of her life in various employment law related positions, in both private and public organizations. Attorney Newman grew up in Buffalo, New York, during the heat of the civil rights movement in the 1960's, and she not only witnessed discrimination and civil rights violations as a child, but also experienced it first hand, including housing discrimination, police brutality and employment discrimination.  Attorney Newman's heros include Martin Luther King, Jr., Justice Thurgood Marshall, Rep. John Lewis, Medgar Evers, Rosa Parks, President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.  She has always dreamed of becoming an attorney and vowed as a young child that some day she would go to law school, become an attorney and devote her legal services to defending victims of discrimination and civil rights violations.

Attorney Newman has a wide variety of work experience in employment law and civil rights fields, as well as many years experience in management, operations and administration.   Prior to practicing law, Attorney Newman operated a private business as a federal contract Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Investigator.  She investigated federal employee discrimination complaints in both union and non-union employment settings for various federal agencies nationwide.    Attorney Newman worked as a Regional Human Resources Generalist for a private international retail chain for eight years and as a District Manager for nine years for the same company prior to her promotion to H.R. Generalist.  Attorney Newman served in the U.S. Army for a total of nine years, obtaining the rank of Non-Commissioned Officer, and she served as her unit's Equal Employment Opportunity Representative for five of those years.  Prior to joining the army, she worked in civil service for the Veterans Administration, US. Marshal's Service and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court.  Attorney Newman gained valuable experience and education directly related to her current employment law practice.  In her role as H.R. Generalist, Attorney Newman was responsible for employee relations for over 3000 employees, which included investigating numerous discrimination claims, preparing and presenting employment law training classes, preparing position statements in response to Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) inquiries, and she regularly communicated with agencies connected with employment law regulations, i.e., EEOC, Department of Labor, OSHA and Florida Commission on Human Relations.

Attorney Newman is also a litigator.  She covers hearings for law firms throughout the United States, appearing regularly in county and circuit courts throughout South Florida.  She has successfully handled all aspects of litigation, including pre-trial practice, Motion practice, and trials. She has successfully negotiated multiple settlements ranging from small claims up to six figure amounts and is well versed in the rules of civil procedure and rules of evidence.  Contact the Law Office of Annette Newman, LLC to schedule a consultation.
